Okay, Instagram followers already know what went into getting these photos because YES, that was me crouched on top of a boat trying to look completely inconspicuous photographing Kathryn & Bubba’s Lake Union Proposal. CASUAL – the things we do for the shot.
Thankfully, it was 100000% worth it because Bubba pulled it off, Kathryn said YES, and I got to photograph the whole thing with Lake Union and the Seattle skyline behind them. Truly a very good day to hide on a boat with a camera.
Proposals are such a fun change of pace because there’s an entire secret mission happening behind the scenes. Bubba and I coordinated the plan ahead of time so I knew exactly where to be when they arrived. Then came the hardest part: hiding and waiting without looking suspicious.
There’s always a point right before a proposal when I become overly aware of myself. Am I hidden enough? Does she see me? Thankfully Kathryn had no idea what was coming, and Bubba got her right where he needed her.
Then he got down on one knee and SHE SAID YES!!!
I love the few minutes right after a proposal because nobody quite knows what to do with themselves. The adrenaline is high, the ring gets approximately 700 glances, and the newly engaged couple keeps looking at each other like, wait, we’re getting MARRIED?!
Kathryn & Bubba were so freaking cute and clearly on cloud nine, so we took advantage of our spot on Lake Union and snapped some just engaged photos. Seattle also decided to show off for us, which I very much appreciated. Boats, water, skyline, two cuties who just got engaged. Bubba did good!
And the best part? This isn’t the last time these two will be in front of my camera! I get to photograph Kathryn & Bubba’s wedding next year, which makes getting to capture the proposal feel even more fun. I LOVE getting to photograph more than one chapter with my couples, and now I’m already counting down to round two.
Kathryn & Bubba, CONGRATS!!! Thank you for trusting me with the secret mission. Cannot freaking wait to get you two married next year!
