Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Kate and James for their dreamy golden hour Rosario Beach engagement session —and yes, they brought their adorable pup along for the adventure. Nestled just south of Deception Pass, Rosario is one of those hidden gems that somehow feels both wildly epic and incredibly peaceful. With its soft, golden light and expansive coastal views, it’s basically a photographer’s dream come true.

Kate and James picked this spot for all the right reasons, and the minute we arrived, I knew we were in for something special. The evening light was just starting to mellow out, casting that perfect golden glow across the shoreline. It was romantic, calm, and honestly kind of magical. Add in one sweet couple and a very photogenic dog? Let’s just say I was thriving behind the camera.

Sunset Strolls, Puppy Love, and a Surprise Ring

From the start, Kate and James were so easy and fun to work with. They had this relaxed, joyful energy that made everything feel natural. Whether they were walking hand-in-hand along the water or playing with their pup in the sand, their connection was effortless. They were naturals in front of the camera—so much so that I often found myself just quietly observing their sweet little moments, snapping away like a happy fly on the wall.

One of my favorite parts of the session? When James surprised Kate with a gorgeous new ring she’d been eyeing. Cue all the “awwws.” It was such a thoughtful, unexpected gesture, and capturing her reaction felt so special. That moment added a whole new layer of intimacy to their gallery—something I know they’ll treasure forever.

We wrapped up on the cliffside, just as the last light of day faded behind the horizon. The mood turned soft and romantic, the kind of light that makes everything feel a little cinematic. Those cliffside shots? Straight fire. A little moody, a lot of heart.

As I packed up my gear and said goodbye, I left feeling so grateful to have been part of their story. Kate and James are the kind of couple that make you smile just being around them, and I already cannot wait to capture their wedding this September in Lake Chelan. It’s going to be one for the books!
