There’s something about island weddings that just hit different—especially when they take place in a location as stunning and deeply sentimental as Sy & Clayton’s special day on Crane Island. Nestled in the heart of the San Juan Islands, this intimate celebration felt like pure magic, blending breathtaking puget sound scenery, handcrafted wedding details, and the most genuine and fun-loving couple. One of the best perks of photographing weddings in Washington is getting to shoot in locations as awe inspiring as Crane Island- keep reading to experience the wonder of the San Juans for yourself!
Sy & Clayton’s wedding was so much more than your run of the mill traditional wedding—it was a reflection of who they are: laid-back, deeply in love, and surrounded by people who wholeheartedly adore them. Every detail felt intentional, from the trendy pastel florals to the handmade venue structures built by Clayton and his family. The wedding took place on Clayton’s family’s property on the Island– a place he grew up and the couple spent countless summers together leading up to their big day.
One fun little personal touch that I absolutely LOVED from this wedding was that they had guests bring their own colorful, unique dinner plates to leave at their place setting, which added so much fun and dimension to the tablescape. It was one of those rare celebrations where nothing felt like it was just done for the sake of complying with general wedding standards- everything was significant, beautiful, and special to the two of them.
The entire day was filled with so much emotion, and I’ll be honest—I shed a few tears myself during the toasts. (I was also pregnant so like, how could I not?!) The speeches were so heartfelt, and I will never forget the groom’s little brother tearing up talking about how much he loved the relationship his big brother had built with Sy. Not a dry eye in the HOUSE.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Sy & Clayton shared their first dance against one of the most stunning sunsets I’ve ever seen. The sky turned into a watercolor painting, and with the backdrop of the San Juan Islands’ water and wild foliage, it felt like a literal movie.
These two didn’t just throw a wedding; they hosted an experience—one that left every guest (and vendor!) feeling so full of love.
A day this magical couldn’t have come together without the most wonderful team of vendors—many of whom were close friends of Sy’s, making it even more special.
