This session felt a little sneaky in the best way. Like we were hopping on a plane to Oxford, but really we were just wandering around my lovely alma mater. Go Dawgs! The University of Washington campus is one of those places I forget how good it is until I’m back on it, and photographing a Seattle engagement session there was such a fun reminder.
We spent the afternoon strolling through campus, ducking into corners with ivy-covered walls, old brick buildings, and pathways that somehow make everything feel timeless and cozy all at once. There are so many spots tucked away at UW that feel intimate, even when campus is buzzing around you. It’s the kind of place where you turn a corner and suddenly think, wait… how is this Seattle?
One of my favorite parts about shooting at UW is the mix of textures. Soft light filtering through trees, dramatic architecture, grand staircases, wide open walkways. It gives so much variety. We bounced between classic campus views and quieter tucked-away spots, which made the gallery feel really balanced and full.
Shooting in places that actually mean something to the couple makes the shoot all the more special. Whether it’s an alma mater, a favorite neighborhood, or somewhere you spent a lot of time together, those locations always add another layer to the photos. This session felt personal in that way. Familiar, comfortable, and full of easy moments that didn’t need much direction.
This is definitely one of those sessions that reminded me how much I love a good Seattle engagement shoot, especially when it’s somewhere a little unexpected. UW has officially made it onto my list of places I want to shoot at way more often. So if you’re down to wander campus with me and pretend we’re abroad for an hour, I’m very in.
